Fun Font Friday!

Hello everyone!

Stacey here with September's Fun Font Friday!

I don't know about ya'll but I have really changed the way I scrap and am trying to make it all about the memories and the story behind the photo. That being the case I am always on the lookout for great journaling fonts to use on my layouts!

I discovered Teletype and instantly fell in love and have used it on quite a bit of my current pages!

here is a recent page of mine using the fabulous collab with Connie Prince, Take Me Away!

Show Me the Patterned Paper- Thursday Challenge

Happy September everyone!! Where did the year go?! Are all your kids in school yet? I have the opportunity to host todays challenge. I personally love to do challenges, whether they be template challenges or color challenges, all help me step out of my box. I hope you feel the same way too and participate in our challenges here- the best part is Trixie Scraps picks one person from the previous weeks challenge to get a little prize. Did you get that- for doing our challenges you get something for free!! Be sure to play along...

The winner from Jen's template challenge last week is- Wahoolady!!! She used Trixie Scraps Love My Guy. Congrats, make sure you stop by here gallery and give her some love. Watch your inbox for a little something from Trixie Scraps.

Now for this weeks challenge- I have a really hard time with patterned backgrounds/ papers. I just don't think I can ever get the patterns to match up. So I tend to scrap with very solid papers or papers with minimal patterns and not lots of color. However I tried really hard to step out of my box on this layout. So your challenge- should you choose to accept- is to scrap a layout with only one solid paper and the rest patterns. I don't have a set number of patterned papers that you have to use, but there can only be one solid on the whole layout. Now for the nitty gritty- you must post your layout in a gallery (we hope you'll put it into one of Trixie Scraps galleries so we can see it and give you love) and leave a link for it here in a comment and you have to use at least 80% of Trixie Scraps products.

I used Trixie Scraps and Connie Prince's new 'Take Me Away: bundle':

And some of our Trixie Scrap Stars played along- look at their lovely layouts:

Beth did one using Lovely Days: mini kit:

Carolyn played along using Trixie Scraps new kit- Tea Time with Teddy and a template from Old Glory:

Fran has a very bright and colorful layout using Defining Me:

And Theresa made a beautiful layout using Old Glory

Don't forget that one lucky winner will receive a special gift from Tracy- don't miss out on your chance!! Can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

Tips, Trends and Techniques Tuesday: Working With Whitespace!

Hey everyone! Tanya here with my first blog post as a member of Trixie's Scraps Stars!! Yay!

For today I have a quick little White Space tip for ya. I am by no means an expert on "white space" layouts, but I have been working on my own way of perfecting them that works for me. I feel that when it comes to these type of layouts, it is all about the placement. For this tutorial I am using the awesome Sunday Afternoon by Trixie Scraps and Designs by Sarah Bennett. I will usually start by placing my photo(s) right in the middle of my page. My background papers are already in place because I usually do them first. Then I cluster all my elements, my title and anything else I want around the photo. Once all that is done, I select every layer in my layers pallet EXCEPT the background papers:

With all those layers selected, click the bounding box around your photo(s) and drag the whole cluster around your page. Change the size, placement and even the angle until you find a spot for it that you love! Here are some examples:

Maybe in the process of doing this, you decide that your layout looks better with the photo(s) and clustering taking up most of the page, nothing wrong with that!

This is a fun way to play and try new ways of placing your photo(s) that you might now have thought of before!

Here is the placement that I ended up using for my layout:

Make It Hybrid Monday

Welcome back to another installment of Make It Hybrid Monday. Can you believe that the school year is here? What better way to celebrate the back to school season then create a few hybrid projects? Smiley Trixie Scraps has so many fun kits that are just perfect for back to school gifts.

At the beginning of the month, Sandy showed us how to create a cute nail kit using Saffron Blues. Using the same kit, I made backpacks for both a boy and a girl and filled it with back to school goodies like crayons and a bag of snacks for an easy surprise on the first day of school!

I started with the Backpack Template from Krisi's Kreations and decorated it using the Saffron Blues kit. Once printed and assembled, I adhered a button with ribbon and added Glossy Accents to the name on the boy backpack and added flowers and brads onto the girl backpack. I used some ribbon from my stash of ribbons and strung them through the back and up through the top so that they can hang on the door or on a peg. Both backpacks were closed with velcro dot enclosures found in the sewing section in your local craft store.

A totally easy and cute project to surprise your special student! What other projects do you do to celebrate the back to school season? Link us up here so that we can make sure to showcase it in the next Make It Hybrid Monday! Have a great week everyone!
